Class XI · Oscillations: T = 2π√(m/k) live, plus damping.
EnergyE = 3.200 J · KE = 0.000 · PE = 3.200 · E₀ = 3.200
KE PE
Controls
Spring k (N/m)
Mass m (kg)
Amplitude A (m)
Damping b
ω
8.94 rad/s
T
0.702 s
f
1.42 Hz
E₀
3.20 J
Formulas
- ω = √(k/m), T = 2π√(m/k)
- x(t) = A cos(ωt + φ)
- E = ½kA² = ½mv² + ½kx²
- Damped: x = A e^(−bt/2m) cos(ω′t)
Try this
Set b = 0 and watch KE + PE stay constant. Now bump b to 0.4: energy bleeds out of the total bar each cycle. Quadruple k and notice T halves only by √4 = 2.
